Gotham Gazette: Batman Alive? Lettering Demonstration.

Here's a few screen grabs for Gotham Gazette: Batman Alive? It's from page 6 and I just wanted to show a quick bit on how to do a "Wanted" sign and incorporate a clipping mask. So, check out the images and if you have any questions feel free to comment or email me and I will comment back.

Justice League of America Trading Cards slated for Summer of 2009!

So, I've been wanting to talk about and post sketches for this project for the last few months but needed to hold off, I'm sure I'd get in some sort of trouble for posting artwork prior to solicits so I kept my yap shut and my sketches off the blog, but fear not, soon I will be able to post some of color sketch cards that I did for this trading card set. If you're going to be picking up this set you'll have the chance to get an original color sketch from dozens of artists many being friends and coworkers! Here's a few names to look out for: Mike Fiorentino, Corey Breen, Dezi Sienty, Thomas Valente, Fredrick Haynes, Harvey Richards, Michael Sellers, and of course myself. I did 200 cards--mostly watercolor and it was a ton of work.

Cover Art for the Print Version of TZC Revealed!

This is the cover art for James Melzer's debut novel from Permuted Press. Escape: A Zombie Chronicles Novel, which hits shelves this Fall. The artist is the brilliantly insane and talented Chad Michael Ward from Hollywood, California. You can check out the full article over at: as well as find out more info on TZC and author James Melzer. I interviewed him a few months ago, so, if you dig through my older posts you can find it under the 'zombie label.' I think this is a great cover and has the potential to be quite iconic. I would've taken a different approach and probably tried to tie in some of the story elements--I think I would've tried to incorporate an "escape" scene of some sort to go with the title. Regardless of what I would've done, this is a great image and works well with the story. Do yourself a favor and pick this up when it drops.

Stay Dead: The Stranger & Tunnel Rats getting closer to a release date!

Ok, so it's time for a Stay Dead update! I just got The Stranger back from my proofreader and am about to start on the second round of corrections. Tunnel Rats is awaiting it's first round of corrections and I'm debating doing an introduction for it but I'm not sold on it's necessity. Do people care about introductions? Do you care about them? Let me know!

Mighty Wombat Web Comics

So I been listening to this very funny show, The BoneBat Show, and it's hosts run two very cool websites: and I was surfing around both of them but found a very funny cartoon on one of them. So, check it out and if you dig this one, go visit the site, which adds new comics very often.

Old yet new camera on the way!

Yes, I won a beautiful looking older Minolta camera off e-bay with a telephoto lens yesterday, paid for it today and have to 3-10 days to get it. Cannot wait, as much as I love my little digital Nikon S210 it only takes great pictures in good natural lighting and I'm growing weary of a digital aesthetic, my heart beats for things with a soul and I hope I've found it. I had a nice Vivitar that I used for many years but it busted and I'm lazy and a cheapo so never got it fixed but I think I will still be able to salvage my lenses and flash to use with my new soon to be baby.

Battle for the Cowl: Man-Bat/Title Page Lettering

Here's a double page spread for Battle for the Cowl: Man-Bat, I really dig this spread and like what I did, especially with the title and credits, anytime I can bring a horror touch to a mainstream book I get my jollies. I think this book came out two weeks ago but I could be wrong.

It's all joke but nobody gets it and everybody laughs but it's not funny.

The city screams.
No one listens.
Headphones turned on.
He/she's turned on.
Everybody screams.
Such a rush.
Such a fuck.
The sirens roar like a serpent's hiss.
I don't care as I step in piss.
I love the city.
I'm just kidding.

This little thing has been bouncing around my head--I'm trying to come up with some idears for children's books. Jelly Bean might make the cut.
